I think Emily's naps may be coming to an end and I'm mourning even the suggestion of the loss. Yesterday, after our usual round of arguing, she took a two-hour nap (which I used to cook swill, apparently. Time well spent). I was very happy because she was clearly tired after lunch. She went to bed last night as usual but it took her until 9:30 to fall asleep. We could hear her talking and singing from 8:00 until 9:30. And then this morning she was up at 6:30. I'm afraid this might be goodbye to my afternoon solitude.
How extraordinarily sad.

This has also been our experience, Karen. Gillian just can't get to sleep at night before 9pm, despite our routine and the fact that she goes upstairs at 7:30. Then there is the added "afraid of the dark" bonus, meaning I get to go to sleep at 9pm as well. Okay, so I don't mind a few extra hours, and I'm working against the fear that she'll be in my bed until 20.
I think it is all tied to the afternoon nap. From what I've heard, though, they are real bears for a good little while when they give it up. So, late to bed, but generally happy, or earlier to bed and pain and suffering all afternoon. Hmmm. A devil's bargain for sure.
